Hundreds of mourners have attended the funeral of a World War II veteran who died aged 96 without any known relatives.
Harry Wheeler died at Ashfields Care Home for the Elderly in Macclesfield, Cheshire, last Monday, prompting a social media appeal for people to pay their respects at his funeral.
Harry’s wife of 50 years, Enid, and their daughter, Susan, both died before him.

The retired master carpenter served with the Royal Marines in Italy and lived independently in Wilmslow, Cheshire, until he was 94.
Coronation Street actor Charlie Lawson was among those who backed the drive to attend Harry’s funeral, which took place this morning at Macclesfield Crematorium.
The Royal Marines provided music and pipers for the service, which was conducted by Rev Thomas Chrisp.
Macclesfield Police also attended the funeral, which is believed to have attracted between 200-300 people.
